Introspective (The Longing)

Back when I used to rock the Fugees on a Fuji

When BIG rocked the Coogi

Before I got some coochie

I used to jot on looseleaf 

Thoughts inspired loosely by the music Which my father introduced me

I watched a lot of movies 

And I designed covers for albums

That I made up in my mind 

and sometimes my mother found em 

She used to chuckle bout em 

And I would be embarrassed 

But I knew from early onI had support from both parents

As a child at seven, they took me to Tower Records

For being a good student

I picked up Apocalypse 91 

And pops looked at me like “What you doin?”

He picked up Nation of Millions and said “This should do it”

I took it home and later that week, I listened to it

And that’s when I discovered that it really wasn’t music, but 

It was rather art of which I wished to be a part 

And what Chuck D was rapping had really captured my heart 

So now let’s flash to the present

But take it back to the essence of when rap had a message

That once was packed with aggression

And once was backed by a method

Helpin Blacks stick together 

I studied it fell in love with it from the day I discovered it

 Now I’m Black with a vengeance

 I used to rap for attention

But now I rap with intention that maybe after my exit

Someone can pass on my lessons for those that lack comprehension

You see, I used to rhyme in ciphers from like nine to five bruh 

Hop on the train crossing paths with the nine to fivers

Black sire, not amongst the other 95

But I could turn a Muslim to a certified swine diner 

Cella Dwellas, land of the lost You’ll probably find us

Digging for records and samples, that’s word to Jeremiah 

And Joseph, Queens bred poets

And they sent us off to school not knowing we wasn’t going 

To 1st and 2nd period Really wasn’t feeling it 

Instead we went to breakfast and became better lyricists 

People gathered round the lunch table and started feeling it

Everyday they would say “Oh Jay, ya killin it”

So really what ya hearing is, a social experiment with years of experience

From school cafeterias, to shows at the pyramid

To the moment where he is

Game Over, period.
