The Food Chain

You ate the mango on the back step

While mozzies buzzed around

And as the juice ran down your chin

The mozzies feasted on your skin

You ate the mango and the mozzies ate you

The mozzies rule the food chain

You are so big and they are so small

And yet to them it doesn’t matter at all

If they need to eat in the night

They land on you and just bite

But listen up close for a high pitched note

There might be bats in the air afloat

Oh swooping and diving fast and neat, catching the mozzies they can eat

The bats eat the mozzies that feasted on you, so they must rule the food chain too

Their targets small and hard to see, and yet the bats catch them with ease

While flying in the darkest night, it’s better to use ears than sight

It’s the food chain, it’s the way things go, eating anything to make us grow

Though they tell us: big eats small, it doesn’t always go that way at all

Lion doesn’t look or care about the tiny ants down there

And yet their journey is quite real, teaming up to make their meal
