A Great Ruinous Deed

When the harsh insignificance of man Is put into perspective Compared against the expanse of time Does the futility of your actions speak truth? Our existence is nothing more Than an iota of everything that is to be conceived For once bones turn to dust And the earth wilts away, all that will be left behind Are the echoes of the souls that were bound in space So label me a pessimist, perhaps But there is comfort here And find serenity in recognising this one ultimate truth And so we face the great ruinous deed of mankind Eternal conflict, the penance we must endure I have gazed afar and witnessed the very fabric Of the universe unravel like twine And in this chasm of emptiness, we are but a ray of light Our only opportunity, let it not be wasted For once bones turn dust And the earth wilts away, all that will be left behind Are the echoes of the souls that were bound in space If we cannot live with compassion for one another The greatest gift that we are granted will be spent in vain I have gazed afar and witnessed the very fabric Of the universe unravel like twine And in this chasm of emptiness, we are but a ray of light Our only opportunity, let it not be wasted I have communed with the higher power Their wisdom bestowed unto me Yet this feeble vessel, improper One day I will cross this land Spreading the message which I've received Until that time however, I yearn for peace And so on this bed of rock I lay Grasping at the memory of bliss Knowing the ultimatum that awaits us all And the eternal cycle that we occupy Hold your head up high, walk with me into the void
