A Wake

It all looks so familiar, though

I've been away some time, you know

My weary bones, in search of rest

Return to where I did transgress

A wake

Well-meaning people congregate

They try and shield me from this fate

Ungodly horror lurks in wait

His lifeless body, I locate

Torn asunder, my world ripped at the seams

I cannot fathom what it means

A wake

His somber face tells

The dreadful story of

The dark demise that he befell

Had I only stayed

Could I have been your savior?

I drift awash in deep regret
