Muss dein flinker Hufschlag, Renner,
Über Gurres Brücke dröhnen;
Eh’ das welke Blatt—dort schwebt es—,
Mag herab zum Bache fallen,
Muss in Gurres Hof dein Wiehern

Der Schatten dehnt sich, der Ton verklingt,
Nun falle, Blatt, magst untergehn:
Volmer hat Tove gesehn!
Translation:
Waldemar: Horse! My horse! Why this dragging pace?
No, I see that the road passes
swiftly beneath your hooves.
