The Flood

I'm stuck in the past

In a memory that was never meant to last

So why does it hurt to look back

Like an endless nightmare

Chasing my steps

It will never let go

I can’t seem to relax

A pull from the bottle

To drown out the sorrow

Leaving me hollow

Intoxicated until tomorrow

I hoped that I could find myself again

But I always get lost in the what could’ve been

Open the skies in hopes to ascend

But my body’s an anchor

I'll rot here till death

Keep me dazed

Keep me insane

Just as long as I feel something

Keep me drunk on my dismay

Anything to keep me from feeling this way

What's the purpose

Of being this worthless

So nervous

For events that have yet to come

Intoxicated until tomorrow

I don’t care if I see tomorrow

Content to fade as I drown in sorrow

As I pour from an empty cup

I find solace in giving up

Not a day goes by

Where I wish that I was sober

It’s just a matter of time

Until this life is over
