I've never been a poet

I know my English is bad

My life tends to get messy

And I change course like others change their shirt

I saw a crack in the ceiling

I stared at it for hours

But not everything needs meaning

And I turned off the lights and I left

And I’m happy (happy)

There's a pair of shoes

Lying abandoned on the floor

And I ask myself

"What good are they for?”

I could clean ‘em up and make ‘em shiny

wear ‘em for a few more miles

Oh the world looked different in the dark

And it looks different when you start to care

and I let the black dogs

off their short leash
