I Never Wanted To Be Famous, But...

I never wanted to be famous 

But I did have some big plans

And maybe I was just a little greedy 

Wanting so many fans

Cover of a magazine

Looking like a Libertine

I wouldn't be just a celebrity

Cos I would have too much integrity

What if one day

God makes me pay?

Maybe he already has:

Judging by my photographs

I never wanted to be worshipped

But I did just want to see

What it would it be like if they all held hands 

And sung a hymn to me

I guess it's only fair enough

I was never really very tough

And everybody needs a fantasy

I only wanted immortality

Judging by the way I dance

I never wanted to be like King Kong

I never wanted to be big

But I could do with a handful of blondes

Screaming out at a gig

I never wanted to be Christ-like

But I could have done with the cash

Just enough to buy a helicopter

Well what's wrong with that?

Imagining my name in lights

Was something I would do on Monday nights

And on any other given day

The thought was never very far away

 So what if one day

God makes me pay?

Maybe he already has

No-one wants my autograph
