When I was a little kid learning to swim

I didn’t want to get my kit off and get in

My daddy told me: ”Girl you’ll never win,

Standing around looking for a place to begin”

When I was older I got a pretty face in my heart

But hesitation served to keep us apart

Something told me I would have missed the arc

Now I’m all grown up and I get my boy after school

With a rolled-up towel we go to the swimming pool

Sometimes the sun don’t shine and the water is cruel

And I remind myself of my daddy’s golden rule
