Just like a firefly

Thought our light would fade by the mornin’

Thought we knew the end of the story

Before we ever read a word

We leaned into the wind

Always took it on the chin

And let the storms pass

Somehow, we made it

Farther than we should have

Looking at a thousand miles

And the thousand left behind us

When all the bad luck tried to find us

He was looking in the wrong place

We started out low

With nowhere to go

It doesn’t add up when we do the math

Should’ve had names that one knows

In unmarked graves where only weeds grow

Should’ve been poor and sad forever

I guess some birds have secret feathers
