Big Chris Electric

Big Chris was an electrician

He worked on Yvonne's house

That's how she met him

Yvonne asked him out

He'd pick her up in the evenings

In his electrician van

Mostly they would just talk

And he'd hold her hand

They'd ride around in his van

With his name on the side

And Yvonne felt protected

Like everything was alright

Laney was only seven

Chris treated her like his own

Laney's dad Jamie was jealous

He couldn't leave it alone

Yvonne found out she was pregnant

Chris went and bought her a ring

He said, "We'll be a family

I'll take care of everything"

They'd go ride his van

With his name on the side

And when Jamie would see them

It ate him up inside

One night when Chris was out drinking

Watching a game at the bar

Jamie started in on him

And took it too far

They ended up on the sidewalk

Somebody called up Yvonne

By the time that she got there

Jamie had shot Chris and run

You know we still have his van

Still has his name on the side

It's been parked in the driveway

As long as I've been alive

Jamie's still out there running

Laney lives with a friend

It's just me and Yvonne

She never married again

I know that she's had a hard time

Raising kids on her own

We fight all the time

I hate being at home

Someday I'll fix up his van

I'll keep his name on the side

I'm gonna get out of Richmond

And vanish into the night
