Backslide

I cut out some bad friends

And picked up some healthier habits

I'm taking walks in the mornings

Shutting off all the constant distractions

I'm working on getting myself together

Think that I'm finally feeling better

But it never seems to last forever

I can't have a good day without a bad night

I'm just trying not to see me in the worst light

But every time I start to feel alright

That's when I, I know I might backslide

It's like I can only get so far, then

I keep ending up right where I started

And healing doesn't happen in a straight line

But I hate that it's so easy to backslide

My inner critic will finally start to go quiet

But then I slip up, I get stuck

In the same old downward spiral, and I know

Yeah, I know I should give myself some grace

Take the highs with the lows and ride the waves

But when my head's in the clouds

I just want it to stay that way

Can I have a good day without a bad night?
