Footsteps out on the tarmac

I follow them wherever they go

Good sense of humor, I like that

Pack it away and take it on the road

Walking slowly away from the departure gate

I board that plane, and I spend my time thinkin'

I'm asking the guy who's sat to my left

How he's left this town without wreck or regret

He laughs at that in a way I won't forget

"Took me fifty-odd years to pack up," he said

But I feel I'm losing the fight of my life

Running on half a snack bar I ate on the drive

While leaving the city

To keep my head above all the water but out of the clouds
