Black Rabbit

He said, "You're my jewel

Better kept in a box, that's safest for all"

And she cried, but made no sound

Only tears tracking lines from her cheeks to her jowls

And she wondered what he meant when he said

"You're my little black rabbit"

Was it kindness to protect

Or did he only want her body?

So the next day, she took the train

Past the place where he worked and out to the plains

It was the furthest she ever had strayed

Without his arm on her arm guiding her forward

And she wandered in the grass and she thought

"I'm his little black rabbit"

And on the way home, she bought a gun and she thought

"Let's go chasing"

So the next day, he left for work

And he said, "Dear, I'm back by 5, you better make sure dinner's served"

So she took her gun and left

And in the plains all day long, she shot rabbits in her dress

And when she served him his tea, she thought

"I'm not your little black rabbit"

Somehow, she'd shot his dream, she was
