Just a Stranger

Saturday night, taking a drive,

Drove by your house for the first time.

Back when we were kids, we laughed at everything.

Now we’re living our own lives separately

Used to think that we were meant to be

Our laughter fills the air with delicacy.

Remember that time we’d sit and we sing

Our voices would blend, perfect harmony.

You thought you weren’t the best,

But you sounded good to me.

Now I’m outside singing alone,

Wondering who you’re with or if you’re on your own

We used to be so close, I guess I should have known.

Now you’re just a stranger. It’s nothing major, but I know everything about you –

Your favorite color.

I know your brother.

I even know the size of your shoes.

Sunbathing out in winter coats,

Umbrellas up for us to hold.

People would stare, but we really didn’t care.

Our sisters went to the store and stole some candy.

We took the blame for them and then we swam outside until we were tired.

Said we’d be friends till we were old,

Grew up some more and you turned cold.

Never thought that we’d have a rift.

After all we were like family

And you became my children’s auntie

Without you my heart feels incomplete.

Now you’re just a stranger.
