Streetlights

We fall down Water comes it rains down This world is rotting And we are going to drown The street lights In lines like weary soldiers Shine as dim reminders Of the sun And as we crawl under the sky Made of stone and we wonder why The signs that tell you where to go Won't help you escape Or get you off the ground Heaven is so boring Goodness so trite Bring me back to the mud Bring me back down where nothing is right I throw up your kindness And leave it to die in dusty filth Where is your kindness now? I hold my head up high Way down here where I scream and I growl You think you're better than me Because you made me? I'll show you how fair the works of your hands I take all your rainwater and I pour it sand Grab my blasphemous throat Strangle me in rage I need a reason to hate you Because you gave us no cage An old man Laughing at the whole world With golden teeth he's smiling As he screams at me on the concrete These red lights Never changing into green lights They'll never change I know it's time to run We fade away so fast so slow We've choices but we never know where to go Jaywalking I run towards the station One day I'll leave all these streetlights far behind Expressways Railroads, alleys, freeways All of them are leading Straight to the grave
