Ancient and wise

It touches the ceiling

Of our skies

And humbles our being

All of its ties

To all other seedlings

Stands for all time

While moments are fleeting

From the mighty oak

To the towering redwood

To the aspen grove near home

I'll never know all of it's secrets

Cause' it's seen more than we can know

And it continues to grow

Long after we go

Ancient and wise

Wealthy with wisdom

For all time

Rules it's kingdom

It eventually dies

But the cycle has begun

It's spirit is reborn

From the big blue spruce

To the weeping willow

To the evergreen near home
