Happy Ending

My first little picture show,

 I remember well.

 Cowboys and country songs

 Came when I was twelve.

 (But) maybe I was half that age

 In a sandbox listening to a record play

 Times are windows

 For passing by

 It happened just this morning

 I was standing in the stairs.

 Paper butterflies

 Were hanging in the air.

 You never sing happy songs

 And yet you smile all the time that we’ve known

 It seems like something happened back then.

 I can see it in the lines in your skin

 I believe that all the happy endings aren’t found

 But with patience are made.

 My mama said that we were cursed

 And so she cried.

 The spirit world can’t be reversed

 So we all must die

 I totally shook it off,

 It’s in the mind’s eye that you become strong

 I tried to help her understand,

 But in the end she would not take a helping hand

 You never sing happy songs

 And yet you smile all the time that we’ve known

 It seems like something happened back then.

 Anything you don’t want to say
