Residing in the house

That great grandaddy built

A life's lesson worth a savings

Down at the gravel pits

Passed down an old double barrel

And genes that never quit

A few miles west of 78

And north of highway 6

He's an old timer

Floatin' through time

Same old truck last 20 years

Silverado 1993

Found employment on the assembly line

Building tractors in Moline

Made enough to keep the farm that he'd known

Since he was a boy

Three hundred and twenty acres

Henry County, Illinois

He's an old timer

Talkin' bout Jesus and John Deere

Says he's storin' treasures in Heaven

Cuz pretty soon he's leavin' here

He's from the greatest generation

Of the greatest nation the worlds ever known

He's an old timer, an old timer, an old timer

Floatin' through time

He said our family plot

Well that's where us paupers lay

Cuz you can't buy your way to Heaven

With a rich man's grave

Lord willing I'll be buried up on that hill someday

The hayfield's blowin' and the oak trees sing

For that old timer

Talkin' bout Jesus and John Deere

Says he's storin' treasures in Heaven

Cuz pretty soon he's leavin' here

He's from the greatest generation

Of the greatest nation the worlds ever known, ever known

He's an old timer, an old timer, an old timer

Floatin' through time

An old timer, an old timer, an old timer

Floatin' through time

An old timer floatin' through time
