It’s a beautiful day

Hope it stays this way

Lovers walk two by two down Richmond bay

I’ve got time on my hands

Things to mend

I know how to keep myself busy all through the day

And then she comes in the evening

She stays ’til the morning

And I know where I’ll be standing when I hear that doorbell ring

Here’s the new season

Of last year’s sensation

But I won’t give it too much thought

I’ve got my own things to do

Apple trees need pickin’

Potatoes need diggin’

I ain’t gonna waste no time

On what they think I ought to do

I’ve got friends in the city

They say they could come on by

I’d sure like to see them

But I get along just fine

My hands have hardened

Working in the garden

My shoulders have gone red from working in the sun

Time is passin’

The clock it needs windin’

Reminds me everytime of what’s been there and gone
