Been a while since we've come to this spot

Old fixtures or faces, now different behind the eyes
Eyes that once brought comfort lost in seas of distant gazes
Reaching for familiar rituals but just can't place them
Does your sister still work at that awful place?
Is the office all remote or face to face?
Will we fall into an easy conversation without
The scaffolds of sharing arbitrary space and time
Time that once was rapid slowed down to supposed normal
Days fly by but seconds feel like they're interminable
Have you learned that you'd be different with some rest
Or is it just me?
Has the shadow always met that chair in just that way?
And you're remarking that my laugh has changed
Well I guess without an audience to comment
My comments and musings fall softer in paler tones
Tones that used to spill from mouths in waves by curled up corners
Splashing wide across the gaps connecting wandering mourners
