When the light goes down and the darkness falls

And the trees seem to hold their breath

When the stillness covers the creeping gloom

And the intended focus is one of death

How does one start

To be gentle, humble of heart

How does one start

To be gentle, humble of heart

When you’re faced with destruction and a rising fear

And there is no place left to hide

When the lines are drawn and there’s no turning back

And you have to choose a side

How does one start

To be gentle, humble of heart

How does one start

To be gentle, humble of heart

When you see the pain in a sister’s eyes

Or you watch your brother being beaten

And the world is busy building an empire

And there’s a dying child who hasn’t eaten

How does one start

To be gentle, humble of heart

How does one start

To be gentle, humble of heart

In a world of injustice and rising trauma

And you ask people if they care

And they face you with indifference

Or a cold and empty stare

How does one start

To be gentle, humble of heart

How does one start

To be gentle, humble of heart

How does one start

To be gentle, humble of heart

Oh please, won’t you tell me

How to be gentle, humble of heart

Oooo
