The Great Unknown

We fill up these rooms with all of this stuff

Mom's shopping online, Dad's talking tough

It's a country divided from behind a screen

Everyone's angry about gasoline

But we all feed the monster and answer to greed

It's supply and demand is the want and the need

How long will it last? It's too tough to say

But it's obvious that it'll all end one day

We got turned around and we wandered off track

Or perhaps we were never as great as we act

Yeah, the winters are freezing and summer gets hot

Spring's overrated and autumn is not

And the kids on the playground

They fly on the swings, they flap their legs

Towards the sky like they're wings

And onward we go, together and alone

Into the great unknown

Well, man crossed the ocean against the white waves

Reciting scripture, painting in caves

He harnessed the horses and governed himself

Building up cities and worshipping wealth

So cunning and swift, coming of age

Bodies of water and minds full of rage

How long will it last? It's too tough to guess

Empires rise and then they digress

We lay on the levers and we ransack the land

And we try to harpoon what we don't understand

Now the rubik's cubes solved in the blink of an eye

And we calculate galaxies beyond our skies

While the girls on the dating apps are so full of hope

I delete, reinstall, say hello, then I ghost

Onward we go, together and alone
