Aphids and Ants

You may not have noticed

Or maybe you did

Small insects like me

That are known as aphids

There are five thousand species

Of aphids like me

And we like to suck sap

Out of nice juicy trees

Yes we're known as sap suckers

Great suckers of sap

And we partner with ants

Now how about that

Ants like to feed

On our sweet honeydew

That flows from our bodies

Like slippery goo

One needs the other

Like sisters and brothers

Birds singing free

Both of us living

In strange harmony

In exchange for the honey

That ants love to savor

They then turn around

And do us this giant, big favor

And protect our dear eggs

From the danger around

By taking them with them

To their lairs underground

WIth the eggs in the nest the babies will hatch. So the ants can feast on the fresh

honeydew batch. It's almost like an aphid honey farm. We keep the ants fed and they

keep us from harm
