Horses Taught Me

I begged my parents every day

They finally caved when i was 9,

Dropped him off in the trailer,

That’s when I met him that first time

He was over 1200 pounds

And at least 10 times my size,

I didn’t know back then that I met my best friend

And now I’ve come to realize,

All those hours spent riding everyday after school

I was learning that hard work pays off,

Helped me find myself on those northern California trails every time I felt lost,

Taught me how to be brave how to dust yourself off when you fall get back up in the saddle,

And I learned when you say goodbye,

Yeah it’s ok to cry that’s what horses taught me

Like how to roll with the punches

When things didn’t go your way,

Like the time I thought we’d bring home blue

But we didn’t even place that day,

Taught me sometimes high school dances and boyfriends are overrated,

And it doesn’t matter how successful you are,

Don’t let your ego get inflated

All those hours spent riding everyday after school
