I have a ring hidden in a little black jewel box

I keep it stashed in my dresser behind my boxers and my socks

Waiting for the perfect night to roll around

Maybe dinner and a walk around the town

Two Negronis and some sparkling rosé

Two corner seats at bar one and some cacio e pepe

I had a plan, take your hand and lead you down the cobblestone

To a moonlit Hudson River where we could be alone

The way we were in the summer of 2012

So long ago but I remember it so well

I kinda wish you’d warned me you would leave me like you did

But even then I probably wouldn’t have changed a thing

Then I would treat you and me to a game of mini golf

At the place our first date accidentally kicked off

And as I crouched on the ground to retrieve

The golf ball from the tin cup, well that’s when you would see

Me down upon the putting green on bended knee

Holding out that hidden ring saying “will you marry me?”

But that night never came and now you’ve changed and you don’t

want that anymore

And what it is exactly that you want I can’t say for sure

I hope that you finally find your family and your home

I tried my best to be them for you but you’d rather be alone

I have a ring, could’ve been yours to wear in love

It used to be my grandmother’s, now it’s just collecting dust
