The night was dark the rain fell fast

Cold and piercing was the blast

At his utmost driving speed

He rode the granite way

That morn he left the market town

Riding over dale and down

Scarcely looking all around

For he climbed the granite way

After crossing this muddy ground

He heard that eerie whaling sound

This old familiar distant cry

Upon the granite way

Beware the dangers of the night,

The rocky path will lead you through

On he held his headlong course

No looking back no time to pause

None afraid of a darker force

It comes in clear with ancient law

A glimpse of him one must ignore

Or tear with clutches from your steed
