Layman's Terms

The truth is I was telling myself a lie

Swore it was the wine and not your eyes

It's not how you listen or how you stay on the line

As I make no sense, I'm rambling

It's not how you give me shit for falling asleep before 10pm

It's not an old truck you have but never drive

A whiskey drink the barkeep can't make right

Telling me what you ate in your day

Though I know it's one of three damn things

It's not the fact that you're leaving

And my denial that kept creeping

Further and further down the road

Left me sitting here with what I know

I try and tell you in layman's terms

But we both know I can't limit my words

You show up every single time

And you show me how to shoot pool right

You are patient, funny, and kind

You will treat her mighty fine

In due time

Six years seems like an eternity

I'm sure I'll be doing different things
