As a kid I had a hard time waking for the bus

My daddy had a special way of getting through to us

He'd pull up the window shade and sit right on the bed

I can still hear it just rolling in my head

Head under the pillow he tore into "Salty Dog"

Wishing I could just go back to sleeping like a log

I tried in vain I had no way to make the banjo snooze

Way back then it made me mad and it seemed like a crime

But I go home and visit just to hear it one more time
