Lightning bug parents had a lightning bug kid.
They named him "Blink" because that's what he did.
At the day's end when the sun would go down,
Blink and his family flew all around.
Hey lightning bug, lightning bug... where did you get your glow?
You sure put on a show... out in the night.
As all the other bugs drifted to sleep
Blink and his family twinkled and blinked.
There was no lovelier show to be found.
Like summertime fireworks without any sound.

Hey lightning bug, lightning bug... where did you get your glow?
You sure put on a show... out in the night.
One night without warning a thunderstorm came.
With crashes of lightning it started to rain.
Blink became frightened and took to the sky,
hid under a mushroom and started to cry.
The lightning bug family took to the winds
with mother and father, cousins and friends.
Through forests and meadows, they searched high and low.
But poor Blink was frightened and too scared to glow.
The crickets sang tenor. The bullfrog sang bass.
Blink woke from his nap; saw his mother’s face.
And gathered around them, the whole neighborhood.
It looked like a Christmas tree out in the woods.
Hey lightning bug, lightning bug... where did you get your glow?
You sure put on a show... out in the night.
Like hundreds and hundreds of candles that burned,
Blink followed them home with the lesson he learned.
When you hide your light, you're harder to find.
No matter the circumstance, let your light shine.
Hey lightning bug, lightning bug... where did you get your glow?
You sure put on a show... out in the night.
