I was eight years old in my backyard

Staring at my daddy‘s car

It was a 1959 Cadillac Deville

I would sit inside and pretend it’s mine

He said, she’ll be yours in due time

Promises he’s going to get it running for me, but I know we never will

I used to dream of driving that car down the boulevard

To the edge of town I’m growing older with this guitar

Singing glory hallelujah this car is my free will

But I never got to drive that old 59 Deville

Back in the day that old girl used to cause such a fuss

Now she sits out back just collecting dust

The saddest site my eyes have ever seen

I remember when they finally sold her

All the broken promises I told her

There goes my freedom drive on the back of that flatbed Chevrolet

Well the cars today can’t hold a flame, some try but they never could

Because it’s more than just a matter of what’s underneath the hood

And in the mind of every young man lives a cherry blossom dream

Praying to become reality
