There was a time

I lay upon the darkest green

With the daughter of the morning

And in my mind

I stood behind the golden walls

Behind the broken city

I saw people all around me

Carry on the blood between imaginary men

Toil with one another

About the names of gods and monsters

And their words were empty

And when I woke

I swore I saw the great bird fly

Through waves of silver moonlight

The leaves were in bloom

But winter chased them all away

Like tiny frozen soldiers

I saw a war beyond the edge of time

People falling steady as the April rain

And when we looked behind the fables we found

Greedy little demons

Who were only human

Till the ships set sail

I will think it over

Believing only what I see

Ghosts are dancing on my grave

Living in the day to day

I will abide the rules I see created

In the patterns of the stream

Beyond all our understanding now

If only words of kindness were written in the sand
