This couldn't get much more ridiculous, but every day it does

We're all staying in character, even drenched in all this blood

You've got to laugh to keep from crying

Yourself drained out on the floor

If it gets too terrifying, just commit to the absurd

Maybe we should play it safe and plan on growing old

These days, though, I wouldn't bet on it

So if this is just the punchline of the worst joke ever told

At least we've got commitment to the bit

It's funny how the world rolls up and grabs you by the heart

You've finally got something to lose just as the whole thing falls apart.

So I'll say it with a straight face through this mouth of broken teeth

And commit to broken, holy joy, through this holy, broken grief

And everybody dies alone, no heaven and no hell

So cram in life wherever it will fit

If all of this is just a joke we're playing on ourselves

At least we've got commitment to the bit.

We break our hearts, we break our bones

We break ourselves against this joke

And when we're done, they sweep us up

And cellotape the bits

We commit.

It's laughable, it's sad as hell

We hit our marks and take our falls

And with a mouth that's full of blood

We're bowing with a grin

Except for what we fill it with
