In this house we worship things we don’t see

Like Reagan and God and the American Dream

I put water in my cheerios yesterday

And mom’s putting welfare in the offering plate

My brother still screams at my mother,

My mother still screams Jesus’s name

But we don’t believe in evolution

So everything stays just the same

I have a scar from when I was 5

Making food for myself with too sharp a knife

It’s no wonder I hate taking anyone’s help

Cause I spent my whole life taking care of myself

My father told me that he’s sorry,

My mother said “it’s not that bad”

But just cause children in Africa have it worse,

Doesn’t mean I don’t get to be mad

I changed my hair, and I changed my clothes

I outgrew my views and I outgrew my home

Ask him for help, ask him where it went wrong

My sister put needles in her arm,
