Now for a while
Soundwave felt like I finally made it
Not rich, not famous
But legitimate
I had my own room
In one of the biggest studio buildings around
Clients was coming through
Artists respecting the work
Legends walking the halls
It felt like everything I had worked for
Was finally paying off
But the success had expenses
And Soundwave wasn't cheap
It was about a thousand a month
Just to keep the doors open
Every month that bill showed up
Whether I was winning or losing
And Oakland
Oakland moved fast
Real fast
The nightlife
The clubs
The after parties
The endless temptations
At that point in my life
I wasn't just working hard
I was playing hard too
Too hard sometimes
Money would come in
And money would go right back out
Nights at the club
Bottles on the table
Trying to impress the hoes
Living like tomorrow wasn't guaranteed
But I was still recording
And I was still hustling
I was still chasing success
But spending
Was just as fast as I earned it
And while I was enjoying the lifestyle
The math wasn't adding up
Eventually
The numbers caught up to me
And I lost my Soundwave spot
And that hurt
Not because of the room itself but
Because of what it represented
It felt like taking a step backwards
At least for a minute
Then I remembered something
Every major move I made
Started small
A boombox
A garage
A spare room
So I adapted again
And I built another studio
This time
It was in the second room
Of my apartment
So I didn't have no expenses, no overhead
No monthly rent hanging over my head
No pressure
And surprisingly
It worked
Actually
It worked better than I expected
All my clients still came
The artists still booked sessions
The music never stopped
And in some ways
It felt even better
More personal
More intimate
People weren't just renting the studio time anymore
We were building relationships
Creating memories
We were spending entire nights
Talking music, life, dreams
And struggles
The sessions felt like family gatherings
Creating energy everywhere
But there was another side to it too
Having people constantly coming through your home
That's a little bit different
Yeah cause that wasn't a business district
That was where I slept
That's where I lived
Where all my personal life existed
And sometimes
That line got blurry
You had to know who to trust
Who to let in
Who to keep at a distance
Especially in Oakland
Cause Oakland had its own set of rules
Its own policies
Its own invisible lines
And I was never
Interested in getting caught up in any of that
Along the way I met some solid people though
Real friends
Not people looking for favors
Not people trying to take advantage
People who genuinely looked out for me
People who understood music
Not drama
Not politics
But just music
Those friendships became valuable
Because they allowed me
To stay focused on my purpose
While navigating
An environment that could easily
Pull you somewhere else
And that's what I was finally learning
Success wasn't always about getting bigger
Sometimes success was learning how to stay standing
How to adapt
How to lose something
And build it back stronger
Because every time
Life knocked me down
I seemed to come back
With a better blueprint
And this time
The blueprint was mine
