Ruby drives a ruby red pickup truck

Dice on her mirror, and ice in her blood, it's alright

Yeah, it's alright

We were sixteen when we took the town

Now we've got a lot of shit to figure out, but it's alright

Yeah, it's just life

Hand on her heart, she told me she would be true

When a horse wants to run, there's nothing a boy can do

Ruby, don't you break my heart

I know you need a brand-new start

I swear I'm on the other side

You don't need a hand to hold

But Ruby, if the road runs cold

I'll be waiting on the other line

Couldn't forget you if I tried

Six years later on the telephone

I heard Ruby's coming home with a new guy

Think I might die

Gonna see his face, yeah, it's gonna hurt

I remember standing in her spotlight

Now I'm back-of-mind

Ruby, why'd you break my heart?

I know you need a brand-new start

I swear I'm on the other side

You don't need a hand to hold

But Ruby, if the road runs cold

I'll be waiting on the other line

Couldn't forget you if I tried

Hand on her heart, she told me she would be true

Now sixteen feels a long way from twenty-two

Ruby, don't you break my heart

I know you need a brand-new start

I swear I'm on the other side

You don't need a hand to hold

But Ruby, if that road runs cold

I'll be waiting on the other line

Couldn't forget you if I tried

And I tried
