The Skater

One cold winter, a brave young soldier

Came home from battle

His own dear true love for to see

But her father forbade the meeting

And so in secret

The lovers met at dead of night

But she lived there across the water

No boat could return

The winter being hard and cold

So her lover became a skater

Across the still ice

He'd swiftly fly to meet with her

One dark night as the ice was melting

The soldier drowned

And was never seen alive again

But his ghost still skates o'er the water

You'll hear him whistle

Still searching for his own true love
