I have travelled many counties in Ireland
But there's still one I'm longing to see
It has been a part of my homeland
And it brings back sweet memories to me
Where I wandered alone in my childhood
Reviewing the sights I once seen
As I walked through the parks and the forests
'Round the beautiful County of Meath
Oh beautiful Meath, you've got all that I need
Your rivers they flow with delight
The fields are so green, there's plenty to be seen
And your towns are so gay and so bright
Fish down on the Foyle, I remember the time
You would think it was all just a dream
And wherever you roam, there's no place like home
And the beautiful County of Meath
Near Oranmore, in the County Galway
One pleasant evening in the month of May
I spied a damsel, she was young and handsome
Her beauty fairly took my breath away
She wore no jewels, no costly diamonds
No paints or powder, ah no none at all
She wore a bonnet with a ribbon on it
And around her shoulder was a Galway shawl
My feet are here on Broadway, this blessed harvest morn
But all the ache that's in them, for the place where I was born
My weary hands are blistered, from working coal and peat
But oh to swing inside today, to a field of Irish wheat
Had I the chance to wander back, for own a King's abode
I'd sooner see the hawthorn trees down the old bog road
I'd sooner see the hawthorn trees down the old bog road
