An Ode to Envy

This isn't over in my head

I'm trying to make it stop

But I can't put these tiresome thoughts to bed

In my kaleidoscopic mind

Rumination paints a picture neither you nor I designed

My transition is incomplete

I'm so green with envy

I've become the ground beneath your feet

The colour always turns to red

Now a dagger dangles over me

And it's hanging by a thread

The closer we became

The more I longed to love you from afar

I cut you out and it left a scar

I built you up to be unreal

Now I'll build a wall around myself to hide the way I feel

If you get close enough to me

I'll try to own you

But you can't put a price on someone who is free

I want you to myself and I've become consumed by my own greed

I have an ego to feed

And I only want you to be happy if you're happy here with me

That's the fuel for my jealousy

And it makes me dangerous company
