Now like a lantern

Flashing its eye into the night,

The moon sails by.

The hot earth heaves,

The wind replies,

Only I am still.

Somewhere a bird’s wings beat the air,

Somewhere there is a cry,

An echo quivers, then dies.

The earth holds out her warm uplifted hands,

A cloud with quicken’d steps catches the moon

And all the stars are buried in your eyes!
