The Guest

Rain falls down on tired streets

I’m the only one around

I'm hitting home to take a shower

I need it like this town

The last night, still it's on my mind

Especially what we did

Returning from the midnight walk

The dining room low-lit

I hated the idea to booze

Until I saw the guest

We we were inviting constantly

He never felt well-dressed

He sat with us until the last

Crown cap danced on the edge

Most of us already gone

Hurrying into bed

The guest cut down dump make-believes

What we've been taught to say

And what we thought our neighbors think

Until this New Year's Day

If I remember rightly then

His patience never ceased

To help us being who we are

His name was honesty
