A phoenix up in Harpers Ferry roosts within the trees

Shedding feathers that all dance upon the early autumn breeze

A fire fills the sky as the sun ventures out west

To a place called the horizon, where he rests

And dreams of endless darkness and stars far out of reach

Where planets only stay 'cause they're trapped by his gravity

But they never come to visit 'cause they've got their own satellites now

And when the nightmare ends, he wakes to break the day over the West Virginia sky

He rises in the east to see that everything has changed

Her feathers fell away from all the chemo that she takes

But the phoenix wasn't worried 'cause she always bounces back

The sun tries to be an optimist like that

She withered in December, she never did come back

But a phoenix always rises, so he knows where she'll end up

And he'll keep rising till his supernova comes
