Human Frailty

On your good days you are strong and tall

Straight-backed and handsome as a god

Nothing sticks to you and nothing hurts

You move with confidence through the world

And you can feel it coming in your head

You wake up fearful and full of dread

You see a dark shape over the sky

You have a blur slips over your eyes

Human frailty, it’s brutal

Trying to keep that light on long as you can

That’s the thing about bravery - it’ll use you up

Human frailty eats at what you want

Human frailty laughs at what you’ve done

Then you get a fever and it puts you in bed

Gagging and choking for the smallest breath

You get better and then you get worse

Nothing helps you and nothing works

You call out for everyone you’ve met

You can feel it breathing down your neck

You can’t make any sense of it

You can’t use it or reason with it
