I remember, in 1960

Independence day

I was in Delhi

I was just 7 years old

But I still remember clearly

Jawaharlal Nehru sitting there

And we were dancing in a circle around him

Nehru was clapping his hands

I still remember this

I only remember one thing about childhood, that there was a lot of freedom, I would think very freely

My father - never put his hand upon my liberty

He was a wonderful man. His face was one worth seeing

And his character, his mannerisms, his way of talking

He had a face that you could pick out of a crowd of a hundred people

He was so well spoken

He never put any obstacles in my way

And without any grand notice, he left us at 81 years old

That’s why I think about freedom a lot. And I think constantly about that freedom I had in my childhood

I wonder that if I didn’t have that freedom, that if perhaps I didn’t get married, if I had that freedom, maybe I’d have a better chance of seeing and knowing the world

Sometimes now and then when I’m just at home, I feel bad looking at other people doing all sorts of things out there in the world. Maybe I could have done that too

That’s why I think

That for young people, if they can live life on their own terms, there can be nothing better than that

If you enter a traditional society’s way of living, there are a hundred more priorities, and you fall into a line of duty

That’s just my opinion though, I don’t know about others
