New Year

Rain turns to snow and The next thing I know I'm trapped here for another year Watching my motivation disappear And as the days get darker The sun sits lower in the sky I wonder if I'll be here next year When will I be satisfied What's another year gone by You can't say I didn't try To make the best of this mess Hold out for another springtime And we might as well admit This city's got us in its grips With neon lights and frozen streets Close the blinds turn up the heat I wipe the fog from my eyes It comes as no surprise to see Ice-covered, dirty asphalt Snow banks, brown grass and road salt Bounce thoughts of frozen concete Another year, one more defeat Will everything just stay the same And if it does, am I to blame What's another year gone by You can't say I didn't try To make the best of this mess Hold out for another springtime And we might as well admit This city's got us in its grips With neon lights and frozen streets Close the blinds turn up the heat I know this winter's almost over And it's not getting any colder But we're only get older I want a chance to start all over
