Lyrics

She was a sprightly little cricket
The thickness of a stick, it seems
She never ever stopped,
Scurried daily into Darwin
Where everybody knew her, everybody loved her
Everyone just called her – Granny.
Watch her walking down Cavenagh Street
Silk pyjamas, slippered feet,
Selling mangoes, vegies, eggs
And she’ll run you off your legs
That’s the way it is, with Granny.
She was the cutest little butterfly
Every day as she passed by,
I’d wave and call: ‘Ne ho ma?’
She’d ‘Ho Ho’ her reply
The oldest Darwin people
Said, when they were young children,
Even then, they’d call her Granny.
Watch her walking down Cavenagh Street
Silk pyjamas, slippered feet
Bamboo pole, baskets full
Waving to the kids at school
Watch her go, every day
To the Joss House, time to pray
That’s the way it is, with Granny.
She was a funny little kitten
Hard work had made her fit, and
She’d come down to Australia
From China as a child
She lived to ninety seven
Surrounded by her family
Everyone just called her Granny.
And when Granny died in Darwin
We took her for a ride
To every single place she’d lived
In her long and active life.
The Darwin traffic halted
Policemen all saluted
Everybody waved to Granny
Watch her driving down Cavenagh Street
Silk pyjamas, slippered feet
Sue Wah Chin, Harry Chan,
Eddy Quong, the baker man,
Jocelyn Wu, old Chin Gong
Lorna Lim and Alex Fong,
There’s Bing Loon, Mary Chan
 Henry Lee – White Chinaman
Everybody waved to Granny.
Hai gen qui hung do hong yen gai
Ja king gow chu, sam tor hai
Lee Hang Gong, Yot Cheong Loong
There’s her grandson, Chin Xu Hoong
Gaw gaw do ham sang, ar Lui Paw
Everybody waved to Granny
