Hmmmmm mmm mm mmm mm mmm

I once had a friend he taught me how to play

Guitar

Guitar, that is

We used to do sets down at the old downtown café

But he was an old man and I’d worry what would I do when he passed away

He’d just laugh right out, shake his head and say Honey you don’t know nothing, Ahh

Old singers never die, they just get rusty pipes

Then they sit around playing songs they used to know, and I can still hear him saying

I just don’t understand what they call music anymore

I haven’t heard a single song that I’d like to play

Then he’d take that old guitar, say let’s go sit out on the porch

Honey, I’ll show you some good stuff from back in my day

Those old fingers on the strings, hey hey hey,

Strumming lightly just like a breeze

Blowing cobwebs from his dusty memories

Reliving days when he used to shine, hey hey hey hey

Though that glitter faded long ago

If he took any notice he never let anybody know

His eyes would light up with a fire that he carried within

When he’s playing those songs that he used to know

I’d say go man, go

Hey e yay e yeah

Hoo oo ooo

Ohhhhhhhh

Those old fingers on the strings, hey e yay e yay e yeah

Strumming lightly like a warm summer breeze

Blowing cobwebs from his dusty memories

Reliving days when he used to shine…. Hey e yay e yeah

Though that glitter faded long ago

If he took any notice he made sure nobody’d ever know

You look in his eyes you were looking in a window right through to his soul

When he’s playin’ those songs that he used to know ooh ooh

Those old songs from long ago oo ooo

Those old songs [vamp] from long ago – oh – ooh- oooooooh, oh oh

Hey hey hey e yeeaaah
