I've been down and out and I know one thing

Ain't no fun sleeping on the ground

Well it's hard to tell which way your life is gonna swing

It's been a long way up could be a long way down

Everybody wondering what it's all about

It ain't always up to you

He might be alright but for the grace of God

Well the Grace of God is a frighting thing

Makes one man mud and another one King

Hits some people like a lightening rod

You know they'd be alright but for the grace of God

Well the holy terror's got his holy war

And everybody fighting seems to know just what it's for

But when you looking from the outside in

You know, it seems like nothing more than slaughter and sin

Each one praying for their side

With love and mercy always being denied

How can who we are cause such hate

If a birth right or wrong is just a matter of fate

Well the grace of god a mysterious thing

Lets one man walk while

Only takes one second to turn it all around
