Lyrics

Don't Make Me Do This was one of a couple of, as I mentioned before
Songs I wrote with Blair Daly in his basement. And we kind of started
This and, you know, maybe got a verse and a chorus or something, and
Then it sat around for a little while. Sometimes these songs do
Sometimes they just, you know, get written in an hour, you know?
And you get lucky and you have that follow-through, they get done
And then some others, conversely, you get a muse for it. And you get
Maybe a verse and a chorus. And you sit on it and let it marinate
For a while. And so that's what happened with this one. Blair and I
Started it. And then I was in New York City for something or other
And I was quite a big fan of David Mead. And I still see David from
Time to time. He lives around the corner from me. He's a really
Really talented artist. And I was really into his record
Particularly this one record called The Luxury of Time. And you can
Hear it in this song. It sounds like his record (laughter) . But I
Was in New York City. And my publisher at the time, Ken Levitan
Knew David quite well. And I had mentioned how much of a fan I was
So he had set up a writing appointment for David and I in New York
City. And rather than start something new, I brought this thing in
That Blair and I had started. And so the song became a three-way co-
Write with David. And that was - when I was recording the song, my
Publisher, another publisher of mine, Leanne Phelan, at the time
Suggested I should get this guy named Chris McHugh to play drums on
It. And, you know, Chris is an amazing drummer, very, very sought-
After drummer with a rich history of playing on hit records. And
I called him on a Sunday. I mean, I was just young, dumb and
Whatever. And I think he probably was like, what do you - like
Nobody does sessions in Nashville on Sundays. But I call him on
A Sunday. And for some reason I'm grateful for, he was like
Yeah, I'll come down and play drums on one song for you. And he
Came in. And I played him a David Mead song. And I said, I really
Want this snare sound from this song. And Chris said, OK, cool
I'll be right back. And he went to his trunk and got the snare
That was from that song because, little did I know it, he was the
Drummer on the song that I played. I thought that was really funny
