Remnants

You tell me I shouldn't expect

Anyone else to connect

I know because it always felt unreal

I never needed any broad appeal

There's not much left, I can feel it leave

The absence welcomes me once more

I fill up the cathedral with trees

And bury myself in the fallen leaves

But maybe there's something else I could want

I just don't know where I should have begun

I'm searching for my old needs

But they escape me constantly

And everything grows smaller and dissolves

The closer that I look or get involved

And if this is all that there is left

Existence has nothing more to give
